Step 3: Maker the dust and scratch on image. I have used both Silverfast and Vuescan with ths scanner without issues. You do not need to install the Presto! PageManager program. You can ignore/cancel most of them and keep going. Don't be surprised if you get a bunch of error messages. Great value as scanner comes bundled with Silverfast Ai.Cons: Installation procedure is confusing. On 7200dpi scans you can see film grain sharply resolved. ![]() You often end up with the frame a little too high or too low in the window. It does not clamp the film securely so after you load your film it can still shift in the holder. Negative holder guides are about 0.5mm wider than your film strip. Vuescan also seems to be quicker at processing dust and scratch filter. Vuescan will allow you to make tweaks to the final scan and re-save as it keeps the raw image in memory buffer. You cannot apply further enhancements to the image at this point and re-save the changes. The transfer speed may not take up a large portion of the overall scan time. I think the majority of the time it takes to do a scan is the movement of the scan head and post processing of the image. I'm not sure if it would help to have USB 3.0. I see this with both Silverfast and Vuescan.Overall Review: The scanner is USB 2.0. I find when I scan at 3600dpi or lower it is very effective, but at 7200dpi the blemishes are relatively untouched. I'm also experimenting with the dust/scratch removal settings.
